IRAD Proposals

Faculty who wish to work with SDL on IRAD projects must follow the SDL proposal submission and selection process. IRAD projects are awarded on an annual basis with a fixed budget and period of performance. However, all levels of research are welcome, and multi-year projects that facilitate in-depth research are allowed and encouraged.

Principal investigators (PIs) must complete the following:

  • Prepare and submit proposals per SDL’s proposal and selection process.
  • Complete the necessary budget and SOW forms in Kuali as required by USU. Since overhead costs are not allowed on SDL IRAD efforts, any required overhead waiver forms should also be completed per USU guidelines.

If the proposal is awarded, SDL will issue an administrative subcontract. Invoices must be submitted to SDL by USU on a monthly basis for payment.

Proposal Process

Interested USU faculty may submit their IRAD proposal as an independent project or as a collaborative effort with an SDL employee. Please note that collaborative efforts may involve access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), which will affect collaborators and how they access, store, and manipulate data.

USU faculty who currently have SDL Intranet access can complete the proposal process on the IRAD Service Desk. All others must use the following IRAD process:

Submit Idea

  1. Review SDL’s strategic thrust areas and determine the best fit for your research.
  2. Submit your idea to SDL to connect with a point of contact (POC).
