Our Role as a UARC
As a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) sponsored by the
Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition
and Integration (SAF/SQ), we maintain our role as a trusted Government
partner through our core competencies. SDL is uniquely positioned as one
UARC supporting both the Air Force and Space Force. We collaborate
broadly throughout the DoD enterprise.
As a UARC, we:
- Serve as subject matter experts for our core areas of expertise
- Maintain essential engineering, research & development capabilities
- Inspire & train tomorrow’s workforce
- Serve in the public interest, free from conflicts of interest
- Provide unlimited Government rights to SDL-developed technology
SDL Core Competencies
As a UARC, we contract with Government agencies to provide expertise in the following core competency areas:
- Electro-optical sensor systems research and development
- Ground-, airborne-, and space-rated instruments and payload development, test, and evaluation integration, validation, and operations to include technology insertion including form, fit, function, and miniaturization of mechanical, optical, and electronic devices
- Modular open systems architecture for airborne, space, and ground applications
- Autonomous and intelligent unmanned sensor systems
- Geo-based active stabilization and pointing for airborne, space, and ground applications
- Large-scale data processing, handling, compression/decompression, and visualization techniques for sensor analysis, data exploitation, data fusion, and data dissemination
- Phenomenology measurements, modeling, and simulation
- Sensor modeling and simulation
- Small/micro satellite sensor systems and components
- Prototype development of ground systems to support ground, airborne, and space instruments
- Cyber analytics and high-speed networks
