Our Role as a UARC

As a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration (SAF/SQ), we maintain our role as a trusted Government partner through our core competencies. SDL is uniquely positioned as one UARC supporting both the Air Force and Space Force. We collaborate broadly throughout the DoD enterprise.

As a UARC, we:

  • Serve as subject matter experts for our core areas of expertise
  • Maintain essential engineering, research & development capabilities
  • Inspire & train tomorrow’s workforce
  • Serve in the public interest, free from conflicts of interest
  • Provide unlimited Government rights to SDL-developed technology

SDL Core Competencies

As a UARC, we contract with Government agencies to provide expertise in the following core competency areas:

  2. Ground-, airborne-, and space-rated instruments and payload development, test, and evaluation integration, validation, and operations to include technology insertion including form, fit, function, and miniaturization of mechanical, optical, and electronic devices
  3. Modular open systems architecture for airborne, space, and ground applications
  4. Autonomous and intelligent unmanned sensor systems
  5. Geo-based active stabilization and pointing for airborne, space, and ground applications
  1. Large-scale data processing, handling, compression/decompression, and visualization techniques for sensor analysis, data exploitation, data fusion, and data dissemination
  2. Phenomenology measurements, modeling, and simulation
  3. Sensor modeling and simulation
  4. Small/micro satellite sensor systems and components
  5. Prototype development of ground systems to support ground, airborne, and space instruments
  6. Cyber analytics and high-speed networks
