OSIRIS REx

Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer

OSIRIS REx is a NASA New Frontiers mission to return a sample of an asteroid to the Earth.

The spacecraft launched on September 8, 2016. It will rendezvous with asteroid (101955) 1999 RQ36 in 2018 and journey back to Earth in 2021, re-entering in 2023.

SDL designed, built, and tested the detector electronics assemblies for the three OSIRIS-REx Camera Suite (OCAM) instruments. The OCAMS will provide long-range acquisition of RQ36 and imaging of its surface down to millimeter ranges, along with global mapping, sample-site characterization, and sample acquisition documentation.
